Beauty Sightings: Unique and Exotic Honeymoons - Beach Edition

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

Hey Lovelies,

Okay, so most brides are looking forward to the pomp and circumstance surrounding the beautiful wedding day. The closer and closer she gets to the big day, the stress buildup will have her longing for jumping on that plane that will whisk her away to marital paradise a.k.a "The Honeymoon". A honeymoon is almost a rite of passage for any newly married couple. It is a period of time that can range from about 5-10 days, where the couple go away and enjoy each other's company and get to unwind from all the stress of wedding planning. After being surrounded by people for the week leading up to the wedding being able to getaway with JUST you and your new spouse has to be the greatest feeling! When people think of beach honeymoons they mostly think Jamaica, Bahamas, Virgin Island, etc. NOTHING is wrong with those locations but if your budget allows it there are a few other places that offer the same vibe as those places but are not bogged down with tourists and cruiseline passengers. I've found some unique beach honeymoon locations that will offer that privacy and serenity that most new couples are looking for!

Tahiti/Bora Bora

Matira Beach and Lagoon, Bora Bora (wikipedia.com)
Tahiti is the largest island in the large cluster of islands called Society Islands, located in the southern Pacific Ocean. Bora Bora is another island very close to Tahiti and many vacation packages will include visits and stays in both locations. It was settled by Polynesians and they make up about 70% of the island's population. French is the official language accompanied by other Tahitian languages. Tahiti and Bora Bora are both known for their sand white beaches, crystal blue water, and amazing marine life. Scuba diving, safaris, snorkeling are some of the activities you can look forward to doing. Most of Bora Bora's resorts are acually over water bungalows which range from inexpensive to very luxurious places to stay. Most of things you will do here will be aqua-centric. So this will be the perfect spot for couples that really enjoy water sports, relaxation, and sun!

Seychelles

Banyan Tree Hotel, Seychelles (justseychelles.com)

Seychelles is an island country located in the Indian Ocean, a little under 1,000 miles west of Africa's mainland. The official languages are French, Creole, English, and Seychellois. As newlyweds you will be able to enjoy the pink sanded beaches and adventurous tours through the rainforest, which maintains it's tropical climate all year round. Seychelles is ALSO where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge decided to wind down and get away from their mega wedding madness! Most of the lodging here come in the form of villas spread out throughout the island ran by larger hotels. Many of these hotels do offer all-inclusive packages to make it easier for honeymooners. Seychelles is a perfect location for that couple that wants almost TOTAL privacy, pure relaxation, and that tropical yet swanky vibe! The main island is called Mahe' and is a whopping 17 miles by 5 miles in size! You will also be able to engage in most activities that a beach honeymoon will offer such as snorkeling, diving, island hopping, sailing, etc.

Belize

Great Blue Hole, Belize (ptnsu.com)

Belize is the northernmost country in Central America and the only country in Central America where English is the official language. No language barriers here!! Many people come to visit the Belize Barrier Reef, which is the longest reef in the Western Hemisphere or the Great Blue Hole, which is a large underwater sinkhole. Cool right?? Well only if you and your fiancee' are the adventurous type, LOL! Belize is filled with water activities such as rafting, kayaking, snorkeling, surfing, swimming under waterfalls etc. BUT it also offers zip line tours through the plush rainforests. Belize also has a very rich history and tours are available to explore ancient Mayan ruins and local museums.

I learned a lot doing this post and I hope you learned a little bit too! If you want a beach honeymoon, expand your horizons!! I strongly suggest hiring a travel agent if you decide you want to visit a less popular honeymoon spot. A travel agent will be able to organize your flight, transportation from airport to hotel, activities to keep you busy, and anything else Hotwire, Kayak, or Orbitz could leave out!

What do you guys think about these locations?? Would you be willing to try any of these locations out on your honeymoon? Where did/will you go for your honeymoon? If you already went, would you go back and go somewhere else if you could? Where is your DREAMMM honeymoon spot if you have one?? Talk to me!

Stay Beautiful My Loves,
Memi
